New director of Cambridge libraries

It’s indeed interesting how the role of libraries has evolved and even transformed entirely. In addition to (in contrast to?) being the repositories of human knowledge, what incoming Director of Libraries Maria Taesil Hudson McCauley brings to the role includes “fostering early literacy and computer literacy; working with dual language learners, low-income populations and teens; and ensuring new immigrants receive the assistance needed for navigating the system.”

It is fortunate that there is a public entity — in the age of disinvestment in public goods in general — that can provide these services, and of course Cambridge is lucky to have an incoming Director of Libraries who is particularly interested in them.
